YardScope

Yard & Garden Planner to Scale

YardScope - Plan your yard to real scale, then watch it grow.

Overview

YardScope is a yard-scale garden planner for macOS. Import an aerial photo of your yard (from Google Maps or a drone), set north, and calibrate with one known distance, then lay out trees, shrubs, perennials, groundcovers, and hardscape at their true dimensions. No aerial photo? No problem. Start from scratch on a grid canvas, or drop in a ready-made yard template. Drag the timeline forward and watch the garden fill in: spacing that’s too tight, colliding canopies, and blocked sight lines are all revealed years before they become a problem.

Every plant is sized to the real yard, not the nursery pot.

Core Features

  • Yard-scale planning: Import an aerial photo, set north, and calibrate with any known distance — your house, a fence section — or draw a reference line along a known edge and type its true length. Or start with no photo at all on a grid canvas.
  • Hardscape and structures: Place houses, garages, patios, lawns, pools, water features, parking spots, and driveways with one click, then resize by dragging their edges or typing exact dimensions. Draw fences, garden beds, paths, and walls freehand; walls carry real thickness and cast shadows like buildings.
  • Growth preview: Each plant has a “current size” and a “mature size.” Drag the timeline forward and watch the bed fill in as overcrowding, canopy collisions, and sight-line blockages surface years early.
  • Sun and shade: Set north and approximate location, then advance through the day to see shadows from buildings, walls, and plants sweep across the yard, and match each plant’s light needs to where it actually sits.
  • Measure anything: A built-in ruler measures any two points at real scale, in metric or imperial.
  • Seasonal view: Preview bloom time, fall color, evergreen structure, and winter dormancy quarter by quarter, so your garden has something to say twelve months a year.
  • Plant catalog: 2,100+ USDA species for the US market and 100+ curated species for Chinese gardens, fully editable. Look up your USDA hardiness zone by ZIP code, create custom plants with your own mature dimensions, or import and export catalogs.
  • Irrigation planner: Set the water point and its watering radius, outline irrigation zones, run pipes, and place drip emitters, then export zone stats and an install list as CSV/JSON for build day.
  • Templates and export: Start from three ready-made yard templates or a blank canvas. Export a clean, printable planting plan as PDF, or capture the whole yard at any year and month as a high-resolution PNG.

Data Privacy and Security

  • YardScope works fully offline, with everything stored locally on your Mac.
  • No accounts: no sign-up, no login, no cloud sync, and no third-party analytics.
  • No internet connection is required, and nothing is ever uploaded.
